Anton Chekov (1860-1940) was a Russian dramatist. His best known plays are “the bear”, “the proposal”, and “the wedding”. Chekov creates delicate balance between tragedy and comedy in his plays. This is Chekov’s most individual contribution to drama. “the three sisters” and “the cherry orchard” are Chekov’s masterpieces. Unfortunately he died in 1904 at the height of his powers. He was the Uncle of Olga Tschechowa and Michael Chekhov.
