broke world records and was virtually single handedly responsible for making athletics popular again as spectator sport in the UK. He won world junior cross country title in clydebank and two years later, at the age of 21, he won the senior title, making him only the second person in history to have win both. Bedford could not win important races, he only came sixth in the 10000m at the 1971 European games and at the 1972 Olympic games. He was president of the Road Runners Club from 2003 to 2006. He was also appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the 2014.
