Ron Clarke


Ronald William "Ron" Clarke, AO, MBE (born 21 February 1937 in Victoria) is a former Australian athlete, writer, and Mayor of the Gold Coast from 2004 to 2012. R.W. Clarke was favoured to win the Olympic 10,000 m in 1964, but was beaten into third place, while at the 1966 Commonwealth Games, he collected another two Silver Medals to add to the one he gained in the four years earlier.
