Bal Thackeray biography

Bal Keshav Thackeray  23 January 1926 – 17 November 2012) was an Indian politician who founded the Shiv Sena, Marathi ethnocentric party. Under his leadership the Shiv Sena became a dominant political force in the western Indian state of Maharashtra. He started his career as a cartoonist. His cartoons also appeared in the Japanese daily newspaper Asahi Shimbun and in the Sunday edition of The New York Times. In the 1960s.
He formed the Shiv Sena on 19 June 1966
He formed the Shiv Sena in 1966 as a "sons of the soil" movement, to fight for the rights of native Maharashtrians who, he believed, were under threat from other ethnic migrants. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Thackeray built the party by forming temporary alliances with nearly all of Maharashtra's political parties.
the BJP-Shiv Sena combine won the 1995 Maharashtra State Assembly elections and came to power and Balasaheb controlled the government indirectly  he was called as remote control.
The government was formed with Manohar Joshi as chief minister and the BJP's Gopinath Munde as his deputy.

On 17 November 2012 Shiv Sena chief Bal saheb Thackeray died on Saturday in Mumbai after prolonged illness.


Thackeray was survived by two sons Uddhav and Jaidev Thackeray.  Third son Bindumadhav was died in a car crash in 1996. He also lost his wife Meenatai Thackeray in 1995.

Balasaheb Thackeray was the social activist, writer, cartoonist, and a seasoned politician who advocated about united Maharashtra and Maharashtrians.

He always disliked cast politics and never allowed to eclipse the national issues over the regional one.

Balashaeb has good equation with Bollywood stars.  Dilip Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar, Amitabh Bachchan, Rajesh Khanna were some of his good friends and shared great rapport.
