Baldev Raj Chopra known as B. R. Chopra was an Indian director and producer of Bollywood movies and television serials. He was known for Hindi films like Naya Daur (1957), Sadhna (1958), Dhool Ka Phool (1959), Kanoon (1961), Gumrah (1963), Waqt (1965) and Humraaz (1967) and the TV Series, Mahabharat in the late 1980s.
He was born in Lahore, After graduating, he did his M.A. degree in English Literature from Lahore University. He began his celluloid career writing and editing film reviews for the Cine Herald journal. In 1949, he produced his first film Karwat (1949). His first film as a director, Afsana, was released in 1951 and featured Ashok Kumar becomes a hit. In 1955, B.R. formed his own production house, B.R Films and produced several hits. B.R. produced television series Mahabharat, one of the most successful TV serials in Indian television history.
He died at the age of 94 on 2008,survived by his son, Ravi Chopra, and two daughters.
