richard Michael Mayall known as Rik mayall was an English comedian, writer, actor. His parents, John and Gillian were both drama teachers. He made his Stage debut at the age of 6 appearing in a crowd scene in The Good Woman of Setzuan. He attended The King's School, Worchester and then the University of Manchester in 1976 to study drama, met comedy partner Ade Edmondson. He also met 'The Young Ones' co-writers Ben Elton and

Lise Mayer. He Started career from The Comedy Store in the Eighties as "The Dangerous Brothers", supposedly a couple of naive but anarchic daredevils, who would perform comedy stunts on stage. Mayall with Edmondson, reached a national audience with The Young Ones. He continued to work successfully in television, appearing in such series as Bottom and The New Statesman. In 1998 he was seriously injured when he crashed a quad bike near his home in Devon, although he made quite a comprehensive recovery he now suffers epilepsy. He won British Comedy Award for Best TV Comedy Actor in 1993 and won Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance in 1997.

personal life

 In 1985, Rik married Barbara Robbin a former make-up artist from Scotland who he met whilst filming A Kick Up The Eightie. He had three children, Rosie (b. 1986), Sydney (b. 1989) and Bonnie (b. 1996), with his wife Barbara Robbin. On 9 June 2014, Rik Mayall died at his home in Barnes, London, at the age of 56.
