Rahul Gandhi biography

Rahul Gandhi is the son of former Indian Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi and Congress president Sonia Gandhi. His great-grandfather Jawaharlal Nehru was a prime minister of India. He is the elder brother of Priyanka Gandhi. His grandmother was Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. He originally went to Harvard for his undergraduate education but transferred from there to Rollins College in 1991 after his father Rajiv Gandhi's assassination. He got his B.A. from Rollins College, Florida in 1994. He received an M.Phil. in Development Studies in 1995 from Trinity College, Cambridge.
Rahul Gandhi joined politics in 2003-4 when he went on quickly from being a Congress worker to fighting and winning elections in his father's constituency seat of Amethi in Uttar Pradesh.

Facts about rahul Gandhi

Son of former Indian Prime Minister, Rajiv Gandhi, grandson of Indira Gandhi and great grandson of Jawaharlal Nehru.

His younger cousin Varun Gandhi joined the BJP in early 2004.

The Swiss magazine Schweizer Illustrierte’s 11th November 1991 issue revealed that Rahul Gandhi was the beneficiary of accounts worth US $2 billion controlled by his mother Sonia Gandhi.

Rahul was 14 when his grandmother was assassinated by her bodyguards. Years later, he recalled at a rally how the two assassins were his friends who taught him to play badminton. "... My friends killed my grandmother," he said.


A rising tide doesn't raise people who don't have a boat. We have to build the boat for them. We have to give them the basic infrastructure to rise with the tide.

Democracy is about non-arbitrary decisions. Democracy is about spreading decisions; it is not about destroying processes.

I am not averse to politics, but that does not mean that I am going to join politics.

It doesn't matter how much wisdom you have. If you don't have position, you have nothing. That's the tragedy of India.

We are all aware that corruption is pervasive. It operates at every level. The poor may carry its greatest burden, but it is an affliction that every Indian is desperate to be rid of.

What I saw when I was a child was my father who was a pilot, and because of circumstances was thrown into the political system, and all I saw when was small after my grandmother died was my father in constant - constant combat with the system in India, and then I saw him die, actually.
